After getting off the steamships and arriving in Canada, how would immigrants go about making their way to wherever they wanted to settle in Canada?

I'm not sure about Canada, but in the US, the immigrant usually had family would could arrange temporary shelter and cross-country transportation, if needed. Those who came alone had a really tough go of it. The had to find work in a neighborhood which spoke their language and gradually work their way up.

We have it pretty easy, huh?

along with the other answers,they would assimilate into the society they were entering,leaving the old ways behind,and trying to be more like the people in the place they arrived
