seems i went off the deep end....pup is now eating a little an i'm giving fluids with syringe in mouth...he only got rimadyl for one dose and probably has no importance in his condition. will go back to my vet for appointment already scheduled...she is a great vet and i just let myself get scared over nothing. thanks for all of you who cared and especially the tuff blunt person who snapped me pot of my funk!

I would think you would have already called the vet who did the surgery. Are you in some way qualified to diagnose this problem as even related to the rimadyl. Most dogs are not affected by it and I would be very concerned that it might be something else. And if it was the rimadyl wouldn't you want your dog to have immediate attention. What is this waiting untill Monday? Your vet has an emergency number I'm sure. The vet you've been dealing with is the one you need to see not some one who knows nothing about whats been going on with your dog. It is your responsibility to inform your vet that there is a problem. Don't you think they would want to know. Thats just being a caring, considerate, customer. It sounds to me like someone who has had a bad experience with rimadyl has told you that's what it probably is and now you're willing to cast aside your vets expertise. I would call your vet right now and not wait until monday.

Some dogs do have bad reactions to Rimadyl. I would take him off it now and hopefully he'll be able to come out of it. Some dogs have gone into liver or kidney failure. My 13 year old dog started to have a reaction to it and fortunately came out of it fairly quickly, but make sure whoever your vet is knows that your dog had this reaction. Many vets prescribe Rimadyl routinely without discussing the risks. I believe it's about 1 in 5000 dogs that have trouble with it.

i would only give him fluids today and no food---as that will tax his liver more. rimadyl is common to be given after surgeries in animals, though there are many cases of complications and allergic reactions. i would contact your vet and see if they have ER service, as they are the ones who gave him that and they need to fix it...if they are truly incompentent and uncaring, go to another vet ASAP tomorrow, and file a complaint with your state's vet office---all vets are licensed. also complain to BBB.

good luck!!!

You need to get to the Vet A.S.A.P. and have them administer fluids.

At this point, unless you can get him to a holistic vet there is not a lot that can be done. As he gains strength you can detox him but until then he need immediate attention!
