Kim Crawford is amazing, true to the varietal. Crisp fresh and bold. If the bouquet of cat pee turns you off don't get this one.

89/100 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand
Produced By: Kim Crawford Wines
Distributed By: Vincor International
Fresh passion fruit, grapefruit, gooseberry, floral, smoky nose with just a hint of bell pepper. Round, fresh, elegant, juicy palate with a touch of sweetness. Grassy, green apple skin, grapefruit, gooseberry and mineral flavours. Tasty, fresh, elegant and crisp on the finish. Well done.

Nobilo also from New Zealand is very good too and it doesn't have the cat pee bouquet. As well it is a bit cheaper.

88/100 Nobilo Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand
Produced By: Nobilo Wines Limited
Distributed By: Churchill Cellars
Medallion Wine Marketing
Pacific Wine Partners
Intense smoky bell pepper, jalapeno, gooseberry, mineral aromas. On the palate it's very elegant, round and fresh with gooseberry, jalapeno, green apple, citrus flavours. Crisp, citrus finish but nice flavour intensity and much less green than the nose would indicate. Better value in Ontario.

Kim Crawford makes a great Sauvignon Blanc. It's from New Zealand, sells for around $17 and is rated 92 by Wine Spectator.

St. Supery (Napa) also makes a great Sauvignon Blanc...light and crisp. I believe it's around $12.

Beverages and More, Costco, and Cost Plus are good places to look for both of these wines.

Kim Crawford is great, as others have already said, but ANY Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region of NZ will be very good, so just buy the best deal!

Lisa may be suffering from a little "wine snobbery", screw-caps never affect the flavor of a wine, so are a far superior alternative to corks!

Cheers!

If you can get your hands on Peninsula Ridge Estate Winery's Sauvignon Blanc, get some. However, this is one of the more difficult Sauvignon Blanc's to get your hands on in the "wine country" closest to me - Niagara, Ontario, Canada. The reason for this is because Peninsula Ridge makes gold winner Sauvignon Blanc pretty much every year it has made it - except for 2001. A couple of nice alternatives to Peninsula Ridge's are Jackson-Triggs and Henry of Pelham - both also from the Niagara region

I'm not able to specify just one but at the present time most wine critics (and I agree) state that the in genral the world's greatest sauvignon blancs come from New Zealand. However, much of the New Zealand wine industry has changed to scewcap bottles which just turns me off.

The best sauvignon blanc for the money, I believe, by far, is - you probably guessed it if you are an American (or even if you are not, given how often the brand is mentioned out here) Trader Joe's private label Charles Shaw ("Two Buck Chuck").

New Zealand:

Isabel Estate
Oyster Bay
Cloudy Bay

Napa:

Honig Vineyards
Silverado Vineyards
Kunde

To the other Lisa above, Silverado and most New Zealand wines that come with a screw cap are wonderful and very consistent from year to year. This type of wine is not meant to age and it is really not necessary for the wine to have the cork to breath. They are meant to be drunk young.

I really like Markham. I got a bottle of it over 10 years ago when it was a fledgling wine for about $9. It was amazing. Now Markham has grown and is listed in Wine Spectator and the prices just keep going up. But I can promise you it's the best SB I've ever had.
