I'm trying to help my uncle to boot from his instilation CD because he has a corrupted hard drive, and needs stuff off of the HD...

How do you get to the boot menu on 98? I'm running XP... So I don't know what to tell him to hit.

He gets to a menu by pressing F2 but when he hits enter on boot from CD it just gives him the same screen. He says he hears his CD Rom working, but it's just not booting from the CD. Do Win 98 users have a boot CD?

in case you prefer to get rid or each and every thing and initiate up over, first make a boot disk for Win98 startup. This cna be the two a floppy or a CD based upon your pc BIOS. make effective that this boot disk and the boot gadget artwork in the previous you proceed. replica or make effective that the disk or disc has the two fdisk and format on it. placed the disk on your tension and reboot the pc. Run fdisk, delete the boot partition, then remake it. Reboot the pc and format the not basic tension. Then run setup for Win98. I fantastically propose a Win98 2d version improve in case you do not have Win98SE. For the snobs accessible who're not technologically experienced to comprehend that some utility will run extra effective on Win98 than on XP, please save you misinformed comments for your self. one and all has an opinion.

Hi
Tell your uncle to shut off the computer, wait a few moments then reboot.
When it is rebooting tap F8 consistently (lightly) till a screen comes up giving you different options.
click on Safe mode
and take it from there.
Once he's got it up and running an retrieved what he needs, he should then be able to shut it down properly and reboot as normal.

Hope this helps.

If need be, you can email me
