The word of God tells us to remember Christ's death.
The true meaning behind partaking of the Lord's Supper (communion) is to remember Christ's death burial and ressurection .
Fruit of the vine (grape juice) not wine is used to represent the blood Christ shed on the cross, from the pierced side to the blood trickling down his face from the crown of thorns, and the stripes on his back from the beating.
The unleavened bread represents the body of Christ which was nailed to the cross for our sins. the flesh broken by the nails and sword which pierced his side.
Christians are to worship and remember, partake of the communion on the first day of every week as commanded by God in the New Testament.

Luci,
There are several great answers to this question that have already been given. I especially liked Penny Mae's answer. This is not really a good thing to make fun of. Our Savior gave HIS precious Life Blood so that we would be able to be in Heaven when our time comes. You certainly are not accustomed to someone making fun of one of your relative's Deaths are you? HE is certainly more important than any earthly relative that any of us have. The Lord's Supper was instituted by Christ and we are to partake of it on the first day of the week as a reminder of HIS Sacrifice. If you want to meet with your friends and do something else I aqm sure that the bar down the street would be open for that purpose. I am a Christian who has attempted to serve GOD and teach HIS WORD in the best manner that I can. If you are interested in reading, studying, and obeying HIS WORD then let me know and I will gladly work with you. Have a great LORD's DAY!

I suppose that you asked this question to be funny? However, communion is not a time for boozing, it is a time to reflect on Jesus and all that He did for us. Many Churches serve grape juice instead of wine so how much would not matter anyway.

Yes it would be more popular. It would also be more popular if the people who served the communion were pretty women &went around topless. I think everything has it ,s place. If you want social drinking go to those establishments. If you want to honor Jesus than do it with reverance.

well, let's examine this. some churches are so flippant with communion, they may as well use coca-cola and a twinky. in light of that, if they substituted table wine for beer, church attendance may rise a bit.
