This small kitten, I'd say 12 weeks, only weighing 1.3-1.6 pounds, severly underweight. She has a few flee's and I'm giving her medicin right now, and her gums are really faint. I'm taking her to a vet right now, but I have a kitten of my own and 5 other animals. I don't want them to get sick, but I won't harm or necled this poor little sweet heart either, and the vet won't take her.. What should I do?

No, I won't take her to any shelter. The shelters will just put her to sleep. She can get better, and she dosen't seem like she's done with life. I'm very good at nursing animals. I've nursed a baby fox back to health, I think I can manage her. She's not in bad shape for a flee, hungry cat.

I think you're really jumping the gun to be calling it a stray at this point. Maybe it does need care and food and de-fleaed but there is a very good chance this kitten belongs to someone and until you make an honest attempt to find out you really have no business doing anything with it. Maybe the owner needs some educating as how to take care of it but that still does not give you an excuse to just take it. Not that it is ideal but many kittens who are owned do run around loose and they know where home is. I would try to locate the owner which probably will not be that hard if you watch to see where the kitten goes and go from there. It very well may be the kitten would be better off elsewhere but if it has an owner this is not your decision to make.

When the vet checks her health, I bet the conclusion will be that she lacks vitamins etc, I don't think she has any serious illness so young. Besides, your animals are vaccinated. Spray her with frontline for the fleas, give her a bath, feed her well, and keep the poor thing, I think God sent her to you because He knows how good you are with helping animals! He won't let anything bad happen if you do help the kitten. I really mean this, I' m not just saying it.

Aww, poor little thing! Well the vet will tell you what medical problems she has and how to treat them. If she's not contagious and gets a flea bath at the vet (maybe the vet can keep her there for a night or 2) then you could probably take her home and keep her. Keep her quarantined in a separate room for a while if you need to. It sounds like you want to keep her and you're really worried about her.

What do you mean the vet wont take her? Like she doesnt have time to take her today or she has a problem caring for sick animals? Anyway, you can bring her to a shelter. Kittens are always in demand so they'll clean her up, give her all the necessary medication and find her a home.

Your local humane shelter or ASPCA are required to take her, but they don't have to let her live. If she has any kind of medical problem, besides malnutrition and fleas, see if you can find a no-kill shelter in the area, because it will probably be cheaper for the humane society to put her down than to cure her, you know what I mean? If you live close to a larger city, a no kill shelter shouldn't be too hard to find. Best of luck.

a vet should take her. go to a nearby animal shelter, like the Humane Society. the kitten needs to be treated for the flea's by the vet and needs rabies shots and other shots for kittens needed to protect them and keep them healthy. in the meanwhile, for the other animals, they should all be treated and have protectant shots, so they shouldn't get sick. but just in case, keep her in a different, isolated room, away from all of your other animals. feed her 3+ times a day because she is so underweight. if she is not very active, put a warm water bottle covered in cloth (like a small towel) in a cage or box, and put her on it, so she stays warm.

I'm so shocked the vet wont take her, is there an animal shelter?? Would you be prepared to take the kitten in permanently or just for a little while, because it obviously cannot fend for itself, good luck.

If you REALLY don't want another pet than you could keep her separate from the others until you find somewhere for her to live. Ask around, maybe one of your friends would like a new kitten. Or you could advertise in the paper "Free kitty to good home".
Good luck!!!

Take good care of her! You are doing the right thing by keeping her heathly and safe. Just think- If you wouldnt have done that, she might not be alive. Yes, keeping her in an extra room away from other animals would be best. Isolate her (keep her away from the other animals) but still give her lots of attention until she gets well again.
Good luck!

yeah the vet doesnt really take animals i thought...
just take her to a humane society, and they will take care of it, make sure its not sick or anything, and then put it up for adoption. thats probably the safest way because they deal with stuff like this all the time, and they are professionals.
good luck!
