my shih tzu is 3 mos. & my rottie is 8 mos. whenever i feed my rottie and my shih tzu comes along, he (rottie) doesn't really growl, he just gives him(shih tzu) 'the look' rotties give to animated objects. my rottie stays outside to keep watch of our home while my shih tzu stays inside. whenever i open my window to pet and praise my rottie, he barks at me and wants to come near me, and when i close the window, he doesnt bark anymore and goes playing somewhere in the house. my rottie also barks when he sees us carrying the shih tzu.

can you please tell me what's going on with their behavior?
why can't they be friends?

The Shih tzu is probably wanting to be the dominant one. I have 3 dogs and one is the dominant over the others, so he takes most of the treats and food. He probably want all the attention on him, practice on petting them both, bring your shih tzu outside for a little while and play with both of them.

Because it's jealous! If Rottie is your second dog and came along after it will feel left out and ignored, just like children can do.

it's jealous of the other pooch. You need to equally divide the attention amongst the two dogs
