Is it just me, or do you also find people more beligerant, rude, unfriendly and generally overall mean these days than, say, 20 years ago. For all those who are going to give me a smart a*s answer, same to you.

It's not just you. People are just in too big a hurry to do what THEY want to do that they are rude and unfriendly to those they see. Kids aren't raised to have respect for elders anymore. Rude and sarcastic comments are 'funny'. Just check the kids on sitcoms in the past 20 years.

Society now is very self-centered. Being nice is a weakness. Being aggressive is something to boast about. Drivers think they are the priviledged people on the road. It's all a very sad state of affairs.

There would be less depression drugs being passed out if people would slow down and act more friendly to those they are in contact with. A smile, a nice comment beats a pill any day. People no longer get that 'feel good' feeling of doing something nice for someone....they get it from a pill.

I live in a small town where people are a lot more friendly. I hate going to large malls and large towns. If shoppers can jump in front of a couple of other people in line they are proud of that! I wouldn't be, nor would I find it to be something I would consider a 'victory' for me.

Best example of how self-centered folks are...... look at the rise in number of nursing homes and patients. I realize some are past what a family could handle at home, but there are lots of elderly in homes that simply don't have family who care about them enough to alter their lifestyle to include taking care of them.

We as a society are not traveling a very good path right now.

From a 52 yo, I have observed the same as you have in the past 10 years. What it boils down to is a lack of respect for elders, authority, an earned dollar and lack of consideration for others.

Why should we be so concerned about ourselves when our own brothers and sisters are suffering right before our eyes? Why don't we have the courtesy to get up when a lady, an elder or handicapped needs a seat? Why wouldn't you hold the door for the person behind you? Why in the funk don't you get out of the way when someone is walking toward you with a package? If anything, offer to help! Or to hold the door!!

The last generation of parents were a bit spoiled, so they raised the most ignorant generation of all! They only know a little better than this, but just don't give a damn!!! So what is left to deal with is a bunch of smart mouth, spoiled, lazy losers that want us to give, give, give so that they don't have to do any real work or not have to work too hard.

I weep for the future...

Yes I do!! I am always telling my children how the world was 20 years ago, when people cared for each other and watched out for each other. Seems like so long ago. I do think people are more rude now and they only care about themselves most of the time, but this does not apply to all, I have run across a few nice people once in a while, people are more rude then not rude.

I'm 38. On the street, I don't really think so; there used to be a lot of kids bullying in high school and the like... I don't think they're much worse now. But online people tend to be more rude, because it's anonymous. Lots of people here are going to be rude because no one knows their real name & no one knows where they live. However I'm afraid quite a few teens & students from my generation would've done the same thing if the internet had been around back then...

Discipline is lacking everywhere. Too much "rights and freedoms" and not enough being responsible for one's actions. I guess kids think life is like a game on the net and not for real (you kill, but so what. Also, like with street gangs: they can make tons of money in no time flat (with drugs and all) so why should they bother to wait around, learn a trade or whatever and - maybe- be able to buy a house when they're 50. It's a changing world, but not always for the best.

Yes they are. And it isn't just the kids either. I actually think it started with the baby boomers generation even tho we weren't raised that way for the most part. Drivers are the worst of all. It's sad cause it used to be when you'd go on vacation you could form a sense of comradeship with others but not anymore.

yes they are.... they way you hear people talk to each other is with so much disrespect.... amazing

Personally I think it is because There is no one home rasing the children... back in the day... we would have never got away with that.. our parents would have tanned our hides...
but now kids fend for themselves, they raise themselves, latch key kids.etc... because for most of us... it takes 2 incomes to raise a family and the kids ultimetly pay the price for our neglect
pregnancy, gangs, drugs, drop outs, crime rates that are sky rocketing and divorce caused by problems that can not be solved together cause there is no one home to solve them.

We have raised a society that wants it all...and doesn't want to work and wait for it... bigger, better, cost more.. they eye is focused on the all mighty dollar... they want what celebraties have ..and they don't care who is in the way ... they walk over you to get it and think nothing about it...
it is a ME ME ME generation..WHY?? cause we have put those two bit Celebrity.. losers up on a pedestal and encouraged our kids to focus on wealth and fame rather than family and the real world of getting an education, a job ..and a LIFE

pretty shameful state of affairs... don't you think?

I'm 17. And I believe this is because the time of the parents is greatly reduced by the need for work - money. As a result, children are less deciplined and are not guided as well as in the 60's-70's.

We as a society have left manners and behaviors on the back burner.
20 years ago, we had so sense of moral values and we knew from right from wrong.
It is the younger generation that is loosing their sense of morals and are now passing to along to their children.
God help us ALL

In general, yes.

It is not limited to young(er) people only though.
the 40-somethings think they are better drivers than the 20-somethings - and think therefore they "own" the road.

Senior Citizens that think that because they are old, have the right to skip a queue and get in front of those that are waiting.

Idiocy, arrogance, belligerence - it is everywhere, in all ages, and yes, it is getting worse.
