Having had 2 holidays with my 3 year old at Butlins Bognor Regis I have this to say. It's great for the kids, the pool is wonderful, the entertainment is ok. The food is terrible so you have to go to the local Morrisons to buy any kind of healthy food.

I like the Haven holidays (and other caravan parks) too because you get your own caravan which is nicer than the rooms you get at Butlins. Also you have more space to run around and you can take your car right up to the door of your caravan. At Butlins you have to trolley your stuff to the room and then usually up 3 flights of stairs. My mum had a bad experience at the Haggerston Castle Haven, she said it was too packed full of chavs running riot everywhere.

I am very in favour of British holidays especially with the little ones. We're going to the Haven site in Devon called Devon Cliffs. Both Butlins and Haven are owned by the same company (Bourne Leisure) so the pool at this Devon place looks identical to the one in Bognor. I think as long as the kids are happy you can have fun. Also when you've got your car it doesn't matter too much because you can always escape whenever you want. I do tend to find that British holidays to attract the overweight chav element for some reason. I like them because getting to an airport, travelling on a plane and then bussing to a resort abroad is so much hassle when all your little one wants to do is play on a beach and make friends. Not to mention the environment - think of the carbon miles you're saving by staying in Britain.

They're both basically the same thing - i used to go to the butlins in ayre scotland but it changed to a haven - you can barely tell the difference ! Apart from the fact that butlins had fayre rides - but if haven is cheaper i'd go there!

butlins is far far bigger and has a lot more entertainment and kids stuff .haven as you say is cheaper but usually has a lot less to do .don't get me wrong the larger haven parks have 2/3 clubs for the evening ,indoor and outdoor pools but nowhere near as much as butlins .

I have done a few Haven holidays in the past and I have never been disappointed If you choose a lively park you and your children will have plenty to do

They are both owned by the same company Bourne Leisure.

So try Haven this year.
