In Canada we don't say Passed Away rather we Say Passed On! I haven't heard anyone use Passed Away here in Canada
but I have heard and even used the words Passed On!
My Mom's body may be dead but her spirit is passed on to her next life or else on to heaven! The word dead or died is just something that sounds too final!

I think it because immediately after the loved one is gone, it's really difficult for one to say dead as it sounds so final and at this time one is unable to handle it so soon.

it just sound better to me that's why I say they have passed away or gone to be with the Lord and sometimes I say they're with the angles too.
