I live in NC and was wondering what, if any, are the laws or restrictions on transporting a firearm. Remember, this is not a handgun issue, just a rifle.

I carrry both rifles and handguns always in my vehicle. Assuming that it is a hunting rifle and not an AK or AR-15 then you should be fine carrying it in rural areas. I would keep it covered up so anti gun people don't freak out. The only way you will have a problem is if you get stopped for something else. If this occurs just tell the officer while fully cooperating with him that you have a rifle in the vehicle. say this very slowly sow it is not confused with a threat. IF you tell him straight up and you don't try to reach for it then he may take it out of your vehicle during the rest of the traffic stop but must return it to you when you are finished use common sense and the law will sometimes be lenient.

I'm sure during hunting season you can carry it in a case or rack from your place of residence to your hunting spot.

I'm not sure NC has a conceal and carry license, the way Missouri and Kansas do. If it did, it would be legal for you to carry your firearm all the time so long as you had the license.

In many states, you can carry a rifle in your car, but the ammo may not be in the same section of the car. For instance, you can carry the rifle in your back seat, but the ammo must be secured in your trunk; I guess so you won't be tempted to load your gun while your driving. The best way to know for sure is to ask your local sheriff.

Yes, I live in NC too. You have to have it either secure in the trunk of your car or out in the open. You should carry the gun in open view in the truck window or backseat.

Here's a publication on NC gun laws. I hope this is worth 10 points!

Sure you can, just leave it unloaded. How else are you going to , for instance, go hunbting, if you cannot transports it. If you check, I think in NC, you are also allowed to transport handguns legally.

I think you need to have it totally covered and have your license to carry it with you
