Well, I'm sure that assessment to their attitudes could be up for debate, but I'll try to infer as to about what you are speaking. In comparison to dogs for instance, cats have a bad reputation for being less overtly friendly and more aloof. In my personal experience I found this to be incorrect, but I would say that depends entirely on the individual pet. Just like any animal or person, each has its own personality. For instance, my first cat Chia was definitely a diva. Her interests revolved around her pleasure and that was really her only objective. My other cats, Simon and Max are both boys I had from kittenhood. Simon has always been an obsessive groomer with both himself and the cats around him. He tends to take other cats under his proverbial wing. He is also obsessed with escaping to the outside. He is much more aloof than other cats, in that he doesn't often want to sit in your lap or be held, especially if you are sitting. He loves brushing. Max however is much more cuddly. He will seek you out for that purpose. Max is more content being inside and his only obsession is for food. Max is much more territorial and he is the fighter when it comes to the stray tom.
I suppose the more appropriate question would be, why do cats have the reputation for bitchy attitudes?
I'll leave you with this thought by Mark Twain:
"If animals could speak the dog would be a a blundering outspoken fellow, but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much."

Cats that have had kittens before are very very protective. If your cat is being bitchy and hasn't had kittens...then it just doesn't like you. you must have done something it didnt like. or maybe you're just now nice to cats. If you are nice to cats and show them lots of love, they will be very nice to you.

normally ***** cats have bitchy owners. If you have a cat and you love it and treat it right, it will love you back and be nice rather than bitchy.

if your cat has an attitude towards you then your cat probably doesn't like you , but if its toward other cats i guess thats just how cats are.
