Can't start ProTools on an iMac: "Digidesign Hardware is in use by another application"?

Yes, this is a LEGAL version. I can't start ProTools on my Intel iMac because I get the above message. I'm not using any other Digidesign software OR hardware! Can someone tell me what's going on?

Open a terminal window. it is in applications->utilities.
stretch the window out to your screen size

At the prompt type in 'ps -aux' minus the quotes

This will show you everything that is running. see if you can find something that says protools.

You can also do 'ps -aux | grep protools'
if the process is named that, it will appear, and not some huge list. if that brings you nothing you will have to manually look at the results. of ps -aux

Now if you find the process you will see something like this

p 225 0.2 0.1 27724 780 p1 S 11:20AM 0:00.01 -bash

the second column (225) is the pid.

Now type this sudo kill -9 pid
where pid is the number you saw in the second column. That willl kill it and you can do anything you want then.

I'm a very intense person and give all that I have in a relationship so the hurt is intense when I break up with a love. My first husband cheated on me, we had three children by then, I tried hard to make our relationship work for 16 years but yes it still hurt some when I found out he was marrying another women and I was already marrying my second husband. I think it was the fact that we had a family together and I was upset still that he hadn't tried harder to make our family work. My second husband is actually my first love, I had known him when I was 18 and we got married later in life, I was very hurt when I found out that he was living with another women after he abandoned my children and I but then I realized that he always abandoned family and friends, he doesn't allow himself to feel someone elses love so while it still hurts a bit I feel relief knowing that it wasn't for the lack of me trying and that gives me more peace of mind and heart.
