Depends. After a hystorectomy women are a bit more inclined to gain weight because of the hormonal changes, and because a lot of them experience depression. So, the answer is working out and staying active and involved, when you've recovered enough from the surgery. Working out burns calories, improves your mood, and protects your heart from the newly increased risk of heart attack.
My aunt had hystorectomy, and she didn't gain any weight, but she staid active and kept working.

Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus, and will not affect your weight in any way. Removal of the ovaries (oophorectomy) will result in surgical menopause; if you take hormone replacement therapy, you may retain salt and that will cause a few pounds of water weight gain.
They way that you might gain weight after ANY surgery is by eating the same as you always did, and restricting your activity because of the surgery. If you spend a few weeks lying around (which you may very well do, it's major surgery) but continue to eat like you did when you were active, you can easily gain 10 or 20 pounds.
Best course of action - eat small healthy meals after surgery, until you are fully active again.
Good luck!

You should talk to your doc about a PARTIAL hystorectomy and ask that they leave ONE OVARY. Like the answerer above, hormone medicines have very adverse effects, but if one ovary is left, the body is still operating in a normal condition and your hormones are regulated naturally. My sister had this surgery and she actually is at her healthiest weight since high school. Please talk to your doctor. Whatever condition you have should be able to be remedied while you still keep one ovary. May God Bless and Keep You. Peace.

Not necessarily. Just maintain a proper balanced diet with excercise and you should be fine. The reason women gain weight after a hysterectomy is because they use that as an excuse to sit on their butt for months. True, you have to take time to heal, but some milk it as long as possible.

What would make you think that? maybe diet or hormones. i have lots of friends that have had them at an early age and they are quite thin and have actually experienced a happier life without monthly PMS and that aweful mary that visits monthly. Talk to your MD. Exercise and eat right. Just think of all the se*x you'll be having without the worry of having the wondering of being pregnant. i hope all goes well. Lots of luck...

No reason why you should as long as you exercise and eat a healthy diet after you recover.
