All of my friends have one. I mean I have A.I.M. but they never get on because they have a MySpace. What should I say to my parents to convince them that MySpace can be safe and how should I approach them?

I KIND OF PUT SOME NOTES FOR A MINI SPEECH

Reasons

-a lot of my friends have one and they are perfectly safe

-you can make it private

-people won’t be able to even send a friend request unless they put my last name

-its easier to communicate with friends that move or go to a different school

-none of my friends get on a.i.m. any more

-you will be able to check it

-i will only be able to get on if I have all a’s and b’s

-you don’t have to put correct information (paige put your mom, texas)

-you don’t have to do you age either

-I will only accept people that I have met in person

Myspace is not safe. Are you willing to let them read every single email you send or receive?

Actually, while I am *usually* the first one to say "absolutely not" when it comes to young people, and MySpace... You seem to really have your head on straight about everything.

True, as long as you ONLY add/talk to people you know in person, and don't put any personal information on there, then it should be perfectly fine.

Just talk to your parents about it some more, and if you follow through with everything you put on here (letting them see it, etc. ) then I don't see why it would be a problem.

Remember to be safe, and not talk to people you don't know.. That's where it can get dangerous.

You should tell them that it is a safe enviorment if you know how to use it right. Tell them that you will not put personal information and that you will have it on private( explain to them what that is). If they are really strict than offer not to put a picturee of yourself. If none of this works than you have one last choice. Tell your parents to make one for themselves so they can see that it is safe. Tell them you wont make any stupid decisions and sooner or later they should come around. My dad was the same way but after some time, he came around. Good Luck =)

Tell them there are safety settings. you can control who views your profile[only people who you've accepted as friends]. You can tell them that people will have to know your last name or email to ask you to add them to your friends. Tell them you will only be friends with people you know in real life. Tell them you will show them your profile once in a while, so they can be sure that you are safe. When you ask make sure you are asking and not begging. Be mature about it. If they say no wait a few weeks or so and ask again.

They are just trying to protect you from online predators that cruise myspace looking for little girls just like you. They know you are looking for a little attention and are very inexperienced about a lot of things in life (especially sex) and that's what they look for.

Thank your parents for being protective and taking care of you. They are doing the right thing by not allowing you to have one.

Good luck!

If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?

Your parents are looking out for your safety and what they think is best for you. That's their job.
