We have an unfinished basement and I was wondering do we have to put drywall up and tape?
Is there any other way to make a basement warm and comfortable. We have a rough-in for a bathroom but thats is not mandatory. We would mostly use it for a teenagers bedroom and rec/tv room. There is storage also.
Thank you

You first should put in insulation, then you can go to home depot or lows and they have different paneling that comes in a variety of different plastics, wood, fiberglass ect.. Dry wall would be good, but this would take place of it if you don't want the dust of sanding the mud ! Also maybe look at companies in your area that do this kind of thing without the drywall, to get examples. Don't put up wood paneling it looks cheap !

That's silly drywall is so cheap it's nonsense not to do it.. anything cheaper won't help the value of your house.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

not enough data. the existing walls are soil, wet or dry or open to the air? I thought black plastic sheeting and Styrofoam behind is cheap and it may not work. But then look at the fire hazard. Find some used wood and build it slowly as you get it.
