A handicap is a system that evens out the Field so everyone can play against each other. You may have a 10 handicap and the person your playing with has a 5. That person should give you 5 strokes to have a fair match.

The handicap itself is how many strokes you shoot over the course rating or over par. So if you shoot 90 on a par 72 your handicap should be 18

Handicap is a number that represents the average number of strokes that a player will take above par to complete a round of 18 holes. For example a Hnadicap of 16 means that the player usually takes Par (between 70 to 72 for most courses) + 16 strokes to finish the round. The lower the handicap, the better the player. The average American Golfer has a handicap of 26, which means they usually take 96 to 98 strokes a round.

Your handicap is assigned based on your scores. The lower the number the more skillful the golfer. A zero handicap golfer (called 'scratch') is expected to shoot a 'par' round.
(Daddy...What's a 'par'? Never mind, Kid. That's enough for now.)

It is the average over par score out of your best 10 of last 20 games. So out of your last 20 rounds, take the best 10, whatever the average +/- is compared to par-that's your handicap.

I think it's based on how many puts it will take you to get around the golfcourse, the less puts the higher the handicap and better player.

If you have a hadicap it means: You suck at it and they don't so they give points to level the odds so you can play as a group and not leave you in the dust! LOL
