The top 2-5 players on the PGA Tour earn around US$ 7-12 Million a year from playing golf alone. The 150th best player in the world (150 on the Money List for a year) earns about $650,000 a year, so that's a huge difference. On average only about 50-70 players worldwide earn more than a Million Dollars a year. As you go doen the list further from 150 to 300 you find golfers (all professional) earning around 250K a year. That isn't a whole lot considering you pay for your own travel and accomodation for every torunament you play and your Caddy gets between 6 and 10% of your earnings.

In addition to paying for travel costs, etc. there's also the chance that you might not even make the cut which then means you spent all that money and didn't earn a dime that week.
Tiger has, no doubt, been good for the game because of the increases in prize money, but not everyone makes a $1 million on the PGA Tour.

PGA pros make as much as $11 million (Tiger) on the tour and as much as $80 million (Tiger) in endorsements. This is not common, and all but the top few, maybe as high as fifty, are only doing "okay." That said, they all get pretty good money and endorsement deals. Now if you are talking about teaching pros, well that is a different deal. The golf course I worked at in college paid its pros around $25,000 a year. They supplemented that with lessons at around $45/hr. It's a tough life as an assistant pro. Some courses pay bettor of course, but all in all you have to teach a lot to make it pay...or win some small local tournaments. The head pros make closer to $50,000, with of course those from big name courses make much more than that. In the summer the hours suck though.

There are many different tiers and levels of professional golf. It ranges from a single A professional assistant. to a double AA teaching assistant and so on up to the higher echelons of golf. There are many mini-tours through-out the world and then you have the "big show" PGA Tour and the income is as wide and varied as there are levels and tiers of golf. It's difficult to answer such a vague question.
