Im currently in Cape Town, South Africa. My budget is R 5000. I preferrebly want to buy a wedding set, but I will settle for just an engagement ring for that price, I can always much later before the wedding buy the wedding band. Now what is the best option: White Gold or Platinum? (I hate normal gold) Then I want little diamonds plus a saphire in it, this is a must, it doesnt really matter which one is on the side and which is in the middle. Now Ive been window shopping around and I cant get want Im looking for. My only other option is to get it made. But way to expensive. Can someone tell me of a jeweller thats not too expensive in Cape Town area? Or give me any other advice, please its quite urgent.

Get it custom made. It will be difficult to get platinum in that budget though; I'd go with whitegold as it's a good deal cheaper. Since you do not care which one is in the middle, get the sapphire larger. It's a good deal cheaper and will save you lots of money. You could even get the white sapphire that sparkles just like a diamond, but I imagine you meant blue.

It's going to be difficult to window shop and find exactly what you want. I'd look into seeing if a jewelry store can custom make this for you. Most of the time you can find a simple setting for about $200 US.

As far as the wedding band goes or sapphires, have you considered going to a pawn shope or estate sale? You could get the size sapphire you are looking for and then get it reset in the perfect setting. Also try loose stone sales. Often you can get the loose stone you want a lot cheaper. Called "trunk sales" over here, they have lots of settings there as well.

Custom made will not be that expensive. I've had several rings custom made at goldsmiths and it was no more expensive. Work out all the details that matter to you in a ring and take it to several different goldsmiths to get prices. It will take a couple hours talking to them in detail to work out the exact price, but I really think your budget is most reasonable. Especially if you wait on the band.

Try Diamonds by Appointment. They'll custom make the ring to your specifications, very impressive company...

Just hope your boyfriend chooses something nice that you will like. Remember, it's not the ring per se which is important, but the symbolism and sentiment of it. You can give him an idea of what you like, but let him go from there.
