TRAVERTINE TILES
Travertine tiles are formed from hardened mineral deposits that are left over after carbon dioxide-rich water filters through rocks and earth.
Travertine tiles get their name from the area in which the mineral deposits are most commonly found, Tivoli, Italy, near Rome
One of the several natural stones used in paving patios and garden paths, travertine can be found in a number of different colors and textures.
One of the key characteristics of travertine is the holes and troughs marking the surface of the stone. These naturally occurring pits can often give the appearance of years of wear and tear.
The tiles can be polished to create a shiny finish, and can be found in a range of colors from gray to red.
CERAMIC TILES
ceramic means basically soil....Many ceramic materials are hard, porous and brittle. so as ceramic tiles....
so being a porous its of indoor use. earthware, or bonechina vessles are examples of ceramic material
ceramic tiles are mostly used for indoor flooring whereas travertine tiles are used for outdoor flooring due to its rough texture and look.
BOTH TILES ARE GOOD AT THEIR PLACES.

You've gotten some great answers, and it does depend on where you want to use it. Biggest difference? Price and looks. Travertine is usually much pricier than ceramic. Also, look at the ceramic closely - sometimes you can see the printed patterns on the tiles. And ceramic, if not installed properly (well-prepped floor, flat surface) will crack a bit easier than natural products. They both install about the same, although I think that there's a trowel difference ( the little ridges in the trowels might vary).
Also, depending on the finish of your travertine, you might have to seal the stone periodically. Ceramic tile usually doesn't need sealed, although the grout will need sealant from time to time, especially if exposed to water.

Ceramic materials are hard, porous and brittle while travertine pavers have tiny wholes that make it more beautiful. Both are perfect for your home's floor.
