What is the maximum safe speed of a Dodge Stratus on the freeway? Usually I don't get the chance to drive over 70mph, but yesterday (I know someone...) who got to try going pretty much as fast as he wants. It seems that above 85mph steering isn't as responsive like the vehicle wasn't gripping the road as tightly as usual. It was very windy. Is it normal for cars to not handle as well at that speed? Could it have been the wind?

130mph in the rain, 140mph in the snow, and 35mph in the clear conditions.

Drive at the legal speed limit, and if road and weather conditions are bad slow down for crying out loud, just because the speed limit sign says 75MPH doesn't mean drive that fast in bad conditions. The faster the vehicle goes, the more lift under the vehicle so the vehicle isn't going to respond the same as it would at lower speeds, and is very dangerous.

So yes with the wind blowing, the person was lucky not to have lost control of the car.

It depends on the road, and for everyone else's sake, I hope there's no one else out there. Not everyone drives fast, so as you're going down the highway at 120MPH, watch out for soccer-mom trying to merge onto the highway at 25MPH.

Many vehicles have an electronically limited top speed.
Your tires are another factor, check the speed rating. Different tire pressures are recommended for continuous high speed driving.

When your foots pushed all the way to the floor and your stratus wont go any faster, you're at your max safe speed. Good luck, just make sure your insurance is paid before trying.

The reason it wasn't "steering" properly is because it's a Dodge Stratus.....
