Contact the local council that licences taxi they should be able to tell you if this car has been registered for private hire.
Look at the mileage a high mileage could be a sign, also look at the body work for signs of any stickers that may have been on the side, and the front windscreen and dashboard for no smoking signs.Just asking the person selling it is not enough not everybody is honest.

Ask the vendor - they have to be truthful.
Look for holes drilled in the dash for radio / mike
Look for extra holes drilled in the bodywork for radio antenna or scratches where a magnetic one may have been placed.
Look at the pedals - they will be worn down (even if odometer has been clocked) these are a dead giveaway
Look at the drivers seat - it may be worn / sagging due to many hours on the road.
Look at number plates / road tax holder sometimes they have a garage / company name on them ? - is a taxi firm ?
Check with DVLA
Look at service history - if it's been regularly maintained the service book should say when it was serviced, short intervals between services means lots of miles quickly.
Look at the MOT (if old enough) should state miles when it was tested and compare with current odometer reading - work out how many miles it has done in last year.
Look for where the taxi licence plate was mounted, usually on rear bumper. sometimes mounted next to rear number plate on sticky pads or will have extra mounting holes.

If you're still unconvinced then walk away. there are plenty of other MPV's to buy.

Check on the back, if it's been used as a taxi the license plate would have been attached somewhere and the marks may still be visible.

Yes Look for screw marks on the dash board and other signs that equipment may have been installed. Plates may have been hung near the bumpers and look for wear and tear around the doors, windows and carpets.
