A bad cold can cause it, it is contageous, you can catch it from others. Many of us carry strep in our systems and throat without actually coming down with it. It can occur over and over if you have poor tonsils, but usually once you have it, your immune system is better equipped to fight it and you get it less often. Prevention against nasty bacteria is the key. Keep your hands clean. Keep antibacterial hand wash at your work station or desk. Wash hands after using toilets, especially in public restrooms. Try to keep your hands away from your eyes and nose and mouth, as what we touch goes right into those sensitive areas and we get sick.
