This is a pretty severe non-judicial punishment (NJP) under the provisions of Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
If this is the second one, it is not likely this sailor will be allowed to re-enlist, but the Correctional Custody indicates the commander did not believe it was time to discharge the violator now. CCU is used (as the first letter represents) for correction. Sailors (Soldiers, Airmen) who are not worth saving are not sent to CCU, but instead immediately processed for separation.
Separation (discharge action), if taken, is separate from the Article 15 and in this case if a commander opted to use it, the discharge would not be punitive, but administrative in nature service would be characterized as either general under Honorable conditions or Honorable.
My guess: This Sailor will be allowed to stay in the Navy until the end of the current enlistment--then denied the privilege of continuing to serve after his regular separation date.
Hope that helps

Yes, an Article 15 is non judicial punishment, and he can continue his service and work his way back up through the ranks, if he stays clean and doesn't cause any more trouble.

he would have been informed at Mast if he was going to be discharged at the end of his 30 days in the Brig. If the CO didn;trecommend that, then it's possible that they thinkthe Sailor is salvageable.

Unless he has done this in the past, he should be able to stay in the military. If he does it again however, he is through. It is hard to say for sure though, because I do not know what he did. In the Army they sometimes send soldiers to CCU for some of the more serious offenses.

I have never heard an Article 15 resulting in that kind of confinement. It is usually only confinement to quarters for whatever length of time. Along with extra duty, loss of rank and pay are normal though his sounds a little more serious.
