I have always thought getting a boyfriend was more a matter of living your life, being involved in activities, being yourself and it will happen naturally. But it normally happens at different times for different people. I knew people who dated in middle school/junior high. Most started sometime in HS, but could happen in the few years after HS as well. For me, I dated all of 4-5 guys in HS, but was so busy, my priorities were on school and sports and getting into college that not one lasted more than 3 weeks. But in college, I bloomed and had a relationship that lasted 4-5 years.
About the making out bit...that happens pretty much instantaneously once you are dating. :)

Ask a boy. If you want a good one though make a list of what you want and what you will not put up with and stick with it. Don't give him s**t until you know he's not a scumbag though.
