I guess you could say that it's anything you want it to be, but generally, there are steps that you follow through during a religious experience. First, you decide to believe. You may have high doubts about it, but you decide to give it a chance. If you are patient enough and "open your eyes" to see the happenings around you (that sounds cheesy.... but it's true) you'll suddenly realize how fortunate you are, that you are given so many wonderful gifts... Then you'll notice changes in yourself. You'll smile and laugh at the most corniest things and the most simplest things. Your friends might see you and find that you have more spirit in yourself or more ambition or more "life." Some might even say that you are more prettier/handsome. Once you've reached that stage, then you'll want to pass on the experience to others...
I know you've heard of things where people experience religion "physically," like healing the sick, predicting the future... I really don't know how those things work. But I know that it's a true blessing to have religion.

The christian life is probably more about relationship and developing in it. God is invisible.
However, in relating with a God who is above all, unless you are a very cerebral individual, recoiling from anything that isn't fitting that attitude, you are probably going to have some religious experiences on the way (I've experienced a number of these, they are so darn good I wish I'd experienced more):

-As a sinner physically trembling in the presence of God (rare)
-Being converted, forgiven, born-again
-Worshipping and being intensely aware of the love of God. His peace, His joy - *common* amongst believers in all bible-believing denominations
-Having things revealed to you very neatly as you read the Word - *very common* amongst believers.
-Praying in tongues
-Baptism of the Holy Spirit
-Holy laughter. Irrepressible laughter.
-Being slain in the Spirit (He's just too strong for our bodies at such times, supernatural ministry occurs when people are 'out', they might also have visions)
-Encountering church service where gifts of the Spirit are at work
(if you're lucky miracles, gifts of knowledge, prophetic words etc)
-Dreams and visions
-Miraculous healings and deliverances (not nearly enough in West)

There seems to be a variety of them out there. Mine was when I was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to have my sins forgiven! when I came up out of trat water, I could feel the burden of sin gone!! When I received the Holy Ghost and I was talking in that heavenly language and on such a high for days!! I didn't want to stop. Now when I go to church and we start praising Him, I can feel the Spirit of Love start flowing and that my friend is the only "Religous Experience" that we need for our salvation!!

It's impossible to describe but when you experience it, you'll know.
