This depends entirely on what type of worms. The four most common varieties are roundworms, tapeworms, whipworms, and hookworms. Only TWO are visible to the unaided eye in the stool, so I'm assuming your kitty is suffering from either roundworms or tapeworms if you've seen the evidence. There are over the counter drug options, however if you've never experienced this parasite before, you should definitely go to the vet to make sure you're diagnosing it properly. The following website can help you determine which, although the vet is obviously the best first choice for diagnosis.
Important to note, the same wormers do not work for all types. The wormer for roundworms is cheaper and more accessible than that for the tapeworms. There is now an over-the-counter option for tapeworms, though it is pricey (Tradewinds about $25 for 3 pills, available at online stores like drsfosterandsmith.com or Petsmart), especially for multi-cat households. No matter what you do, remember that if you have multible animals in the house, if you treat one you might as well treat them all. Otherwise they will continue to pass them around.
Good luck!

The vet that diagnoses what type of worms they have usually can reccomend the best worming treatment. If you do otherwise..just go to your local pet store and they have some worming products there.

What type of worms?
Some worms can be treated with over the counter meds.
Other types you have to get the meds from the vet.

Honestly nothing over the counter works I tried lots of them!! I had to take my male cat to the humane society's low-cost vet clinic. It was really cheap and works very well!!

Drontal is available from your veterinarian's office. Dosage depends on weight, so weigh you cat before going in.
As already stated, don't use what you get at a regular store. There's nothing in those meds that treats for tapeworms.
