There were no reports of anyone dying as a result of watching this film. The film was distressing, and graphically over the top, but it taught a valuable lesson about the sacrifice that Christ made for mankind and that was the whole point of the film. If someone did die while watching the film or shortly thereafter, it was because that person was going to die anyway, they were suffering from underlying circumstances and health issues that were in place beforehand.

I heard that it caused quite a few episodes of panic attacks and nervousness, but i think that was because it was so graphic and little old ladies decided to go watch it. Personally I've never seen it and I don't want to see it. Everyone knows the ending anyway, so what's the point.

I read that two or three people, who already had pre-existing heart conditions prior to the movie's release, died from heart-related incidents while watching the film.
My at-the-time parish priest, who had a bad heart and had undergone a triple-bypass, watched the film and he was fine.
