Those who believe the "lord" speaks to them are most likely to be speaking to a demon, rather than God. He inspired men to write the Bible, This is where he speaks to us now. Until the new system, then he will be with all of mankind. Revelation 21.

I too came across people who say that the lord spoke to them to do this and that. But when I Analise his/her actions and behavior I found a lot of contradictions. These are their own thoughts and they think that they herd the voice of the lord or some other persons etc. Yes they really think that the lord inspired them and these thoughts are his.

If you are Filled with the Holy Spirit(or have experienced the "release of the Spirit") you have a much easier time hearing the voice of the Lord. But it takes practice learning to recognize His voice from your own thoughts and temptations.

It is not verbal - out loud - as you might think...but does that really make it any less valid?
Granted, some who hear God are not really hearing God (i.e. the ones who say God told me to kill my family types).
God speaks with a small voice...easily overpowered by our own egos, wants and desires, etc, etc. We have to have a quiet mind to hear God well.

Good question - since we're all different, it could be any of your scenarios. I think most are seeking some sort of validation for the actions that they are already contemplating, so look for 'signs' that (in their minds) give them the go-ahead. Just my own personal opinion, of course.

the scripture says that christians are to hear His voice. .. while there are words "heard".. it comes from inside each christian.. so it registers as a thought and not an audible voice.

Are you currently considering it as possible that God speaks to them by affeecting their thoughts?

It is just their thoughts.
In Orthodox Christianity they call that "prelest."
