Well I think that you give them a name and later on you devolp a nickname for the cat. I used to have a cat and her name was Patches. A few months-a year I started calling her Patchy and Patchy-Poo-Poo. If you want a good nickname maybe you could take the cats name and add ie to it. Sometimes that sounds really cute!

Yes. ( I don't re-name my cat, but other names would suit him better, now) When I got my cat, he was very shy. The cat owner found him and his brother, and when I got him, his brother was wild, but we thought my cat was traumatized. So, we thought of some names for like, quiet, or calm. I named him Billie, but anyway, now my cat could be named Skits , Crazy, or Mr. Run-around-the-house. I think you get my point. Nothing is wrong with my cat. He bugs my dog, chews my lamp, bites your hands, and paws at the blinds on the window when they're down. I'm glad I didn't name him Calm, or anything related to that!

I don't change my cat's name, the name I use to refer to her to other people.

But I found, with my 19 year old cat, that as the years passed I was making up new nicknames, probably 10-15 of them. :-)

Dear Debi,
I find that a cat's name does not change their personalty.
Although it it does in a way describe the cat. Sorry if I did not help you much. I hope I answered your question.

No, once our cats have a name that name stays with them for life.

My cats are so silly! There names are actually Lotty and Tootsie but they don't answer when I call them, I just whistle and they come home. If I called them something random such as Bob they would answer!
