Usually at parties I may stand around and observe, usually speaking when I'm spoken to. But yet that seems to make me easy pray for people who wanna play mind games and talk sh!t behind my back. Why do people do that and react that way? I know for the most part if I say what's on my mind, people would undermine it, not appreciate it or think I'm being fake, anyway. So I'd rather start a conversation more naturally than just "putting myself out there" like some kind of neurotic sociopath. Why do people have to or even feel compelled to ENTERTAIN in order to get by and "avoid" such scrutiny?

People entertain because they are not secure in themselves.I am a 28 year old woman, with 2 children, and do not always take time to make up on when I take them and drop them off at school.I describe myself as a small(5'2, 115 lbs) yet curvy( think j-lo's best side). I am pretty, and have confidence in myself and it shows when I walk. I walk past the other mothers and feel the heat on my back, and the eyes of there husbands on my... The other mothers: make up is thick, their clothes that latest, shoes, and bags matching.Talk of dance class, the new perfume out, and how their husbands are doing, overpowers my inner peace,as I approach the classrooms. My conversation with Billy about the boy with the noodle coming out of his mouth and nose at the same time, easily overrides theirs, and they squint their eyes, and start whispering.I wear spider-man p.j. pants, and a black wife beater with a hoodie that zips, and flip-flops. With all the entertaining they do(the clothes make-up)the men still look and listen to me as long as they can. The men know their wives insecurity's, and know that I am different. So.. you answered your own question. It is only their faults being covered up by entertaining. Don't you think?

i am the same way. i think people "enterain" is because they get tired of listening to themselves think. so if they start some drama they wont have to be bothered with themselves.
