LOL i cant tell you how many times ive done this...but i think im going to stop BAD things have happened....
Once i was cooking something and i got on IM while it cooked...for a while i was watching the clock but i got involved on the conversation...luckly i caught it before it burnt down the house though LOL
Then there was the time i was talking to my best friend and i said AFK but she didnt notice and kept talking...she started talking about how bad her day was and that someone called her stupid. then she asked me if i thought she was stupid and i wasnt there so i didnt respond...she thought i was doing the "no coment" thing lol it wasnt too pretty
but ive had people do it to me all the time and it gets very anoying but then i realize i do it too. i think its human i mean we cant just sit there at the computer waiting for their response..or atleast i cant...i get bored lol. so finaly i got this thing that makes my computer beep when they send their message so i dont miss em anymore.

They might not be multi-tasking. Maybe they're just trying to think up a response as brilliant/witty/sexy as the last one. I sometimes answer questions or play Sudoku during conversations, but it's just there in the background when the other person is taking too damn long.

There are ways of ensuring that you can concentrate on the important conversations, if people are multitasking does that mean they don't value the conversation? I dont know, perhaps ...or maybe they are unsure of its value and therefore investing their attention where it is appreciated.
I prefer not to multi-task given the choice.

Yeah, I multi-task. But I do get annoyed when I'm not and I'm having a convo with someone who is.

No....I don't multi-task when I am talking.....I think it is rather rude....when there is a long delay, I usually ask..."hey, what are you doing?" or "how many people are you talking to".....if it doesn't change then I assume they really aren't interested in talking to me and I leave them......I never buzz people...it's rude.....

I multi task in daily life but when I am talking on IM.....then I am only talking to one individual. Personally, I thinks it's rude to do it any other way. But hey, thats just me.

Naww...I don't buzz them. That's rude, and plus it hurts their ears. My friends are usually kind enough to keep up the conversation, though I know some of them are talking to half a dozen at the same time and cannot devote all the time to me.
The way to get them to pay attention to you is by being provocative. Then they'll sweep all their offline work aside and devote their attention to the IM conversation.

Both me and my talking partner do other things when Im. I answer questions and do blogs occasionally at the same time. But I always check as soon as I get a new message. My talking partner does bugger off for a long time too in the middle, but, what is a man to do?

i occasionally have to multi-task, but i dont make a practice of it. i feel like if a person is on IM.. they say what you have to say and stay online. otherwise dont sign in to messenger.
