Because places like those are a breeding ground of intolerance, misogynous behaviour and out right cruelty.
A place who stones women who have been raped because they were fornicating out of wedlock. A place where religious police storm into a party and arrest 120 foreigners and charge them with "mingling with the opposite sex" and "bootlegging" (alcohol is prohibited under Sharia Law)
I know I am going to offend people on this but in our day of age where we have rights and the liberty to live without living in fear and be equals, despite racial, ethnic and language differences. Saudi Arabia's Wahhabi Family is a disgrace and all of their "rules of Law" which punish even the victims and the innocent.
Don't believe me? Check the links out and you decide.
that's all I have to say in this matter
cheers

Because women might cheat on their husbands if they drive. Also it's because of the American women during the first Gulf war which is what made the law. Saudi is crowded enough already without women driving. Also women are supposed to be in the home taking care of the children not off outside doing God knows what. They might take off the Abaya and hijab in the car and also it'll be their fault if the men can't get to work. In which case the man wouldn't be allowed to provide for his family. And anyway there's nothing for women to do in Saudi Arabia anyway. So there's no reason for women to drive cars and go out without their husbands.

Ask the Saudi government. They are the ones who implement the law.
It is not ISLAMIC LAW. People are so stupid. I am a Muslim and i drive a car as does the majority of Muslim women i know. If it was Islamic law it would be that way for all Muslim women its not, because it is a government law NOT an Islamic one.
People please for one second put your brains in gear. How can it be Islamic Law when at the time the Quran and Sunnah where written cars did not exist? There for how could an Islamic law be made preventing women from driving? It is the choice of the Saudi government not the choice of Islamic law. Like any of you know anything about Islamic laws. This place just gets stupider and stupider........

Sitting behind the stiring wheel is accepting the responsibilities and the consiquenses. So stopinng women from taking this responsibility is a kind of over protection. The intensions are good but the results are not.

It's against the law there. Just like in some countries they aren't allowed to go out without a man with them.

Its the law over there.
The extreme feminists in the West who are always complaining about how the male dominated society treats them don't realise how much freedom they actually have in comparison to other countries cultures and customs.

A riddle?
Cause they can't get the vale out of their eyes!
If men couldn't oppress women there, then they (the men) might want to be free. That would mean voluntary self control.
Some efforts to that affect have proved that they (the men) aren't capable of that.

They don't want women to go outside alone, and cars are easy to go out alone in... Besides, if they did, there would be cars all day and night at the Bahrain border checkpoint..

Because there is systematic oppression of women there. They can't go out without a male escort either. It is nice what happens when Islam gets to write the laws, isn't it?
