Or does the HDMI only give you true HD picture quality. Right now I am using Componet on my cable box and HD channels look good but can they get better with a HDMI cable?

Yes, you can get HD picture with Component cable.

In theory, HDMI is better, but you may not even see the difference.

dont waste your money on a hdmi cable the human eye cannot tell the difference in picture quality dont believe the hype from the fools selling hdmi cables for 80 buxs
