Prayer is communication with God the Creator.
Christians pray, because we have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. When someone is in relationship with another person, be it family, friend, etc, there has to be communication for the relationship to take place.
Prayer is directed to God, through Jesus Christ.

"If you talk to god it's called prayer, but if god talks to you, it's called a delusion"
"The delusion of a single person is called madness. The delusion of a billion people is called religion."
There is exactly zero evidence that prayer has any effects. There has even been a scientific experiment that compared the recovery rates of patients who were and weren't prayed for. Of course, there was no difference. You could do this experiment yourself by praying to a loaf of bread. I can guarantee that you will get exactly the same result as praying to god (or gods).

it depends on how you go about it. I have "worried" my prayers in times past...bringing and expressing a lot of stress and anxiety in it. One can also take a Contemplative approach...it's an Orthodox form called Centering Prayer that has a lot in commom with meditation. It's very centering and calming...a communion with Spirit unhindered by words, thoughts, ideas and concepts.

Prayer is a waste of time. It's another term for talking to yourself.

It depends on if you know the relationship between your conscious and your subconscious. That's what truly responds to 'prayers'.

Everyone who ever gets sick and we pray for them, that person ends up dying. I think it's because if somebody feels that people need to pray for them, then they must be really sick, and so it's a self fullfilling prophecy. So, I do the opposite and I don't pray for them to get better, I pray for them to die.
