I have been dating a Russian girl that lives in the States and attends a well known American University for close to 2 years. I truly love her and am considering taking it to further to moving in and perhaps even marriage down the road. However, all I ever hear about Russian women is horror stories about marrying for their green card and then divorcing, ties to the Russian mob, etc. My girlfriend is very sweet, caring, and beautiful but there is always this thing in the back of my head that is telling me to be careful which has nothing to do with her, but only to do with the stories I have heard. I thought it might help me if anyone can share positive stories of marrying Russian women and having it work out well. Anyone have any stories like that about yourself or anyone you know?

I am very happily married to a Ukrainian/Russian woman.

My best friend was introduced to one of our Russian women friends, and he is extremely happy in his relationship.

I have several friends who are happily married to Russian or Ukrainian women, and would not trade them for an American woman.

I know of a few communities of Russian/American mixed families, and most of them are very successfully married.

The only problems I have seen are a) ones where the man expects a Russian woman to be a slave, b) ones where the man expects her to culturalize to America, but refuses to try to understand and accept her cultural beliefs, and c) ones where they just were not meant for each other in the first place.

(I am obviously ignoring the "scam" marriages, but your situation is not a scam situation).

You should know her by now. I certainly hope you are not insecure about your relationship so much that you would let such silly stories stand in the way. If you are that insecure, you really should wait because you don't really love her.

The stories you are hearing are about Russian mail order brides. Basically you get a "catologue" pick a girl, you go to Russia to meet them, and if you hit it off(95% of the time it "happens") you bring them back to the states and get married. In these cases, yes, it's possible they're just looking to be US citizens the quickest way possible.

YOUR situation is a LOT different. She's attending school and looking to do something with herself. If she was looking for the green card, she wouuld have it already, there's enough chumps that would have done it.

I don't think you got her to the United States. You probably met her In the states but she's here on her own. Come one the girl is getting an education I think she can figure out a better way of becoming a citizen then just getting married to one. Unless you were the one that brought her here I would not be worried. Besides she is already in America, She is surrounded by so many citizens do you really think you are the only one that could make her a citizen or resident or whatever.

Yes, many Egyptian men I know married Russian women. All marriages were successful. The Russian women even embraced Islam. Good luck!

Let's face it, the accents are a bit sexy... But other than that, I don't think Eastern European girls as a group are more attractive to men. It's just that the only ones we see in the media are fit, good-looking ones. If girls were told subliminally that all Russian men had the abs of Apollo and the *** of Thor, there would probably be a something there too.

You've been dating her for 2 years? Or she's been attending University for 2 years?

If you've been seriously dating her for two years, you ought to know her well enough to see any warning signs that she's only after a green card, or that she's anything other than a simple foreign student who's in love with you.

That you're even asking this question suggests that for the past couple of years, you've been thinking with the wrong head.

Well if she already has her green card or papers then you don't have to worry about her trying to use you for papers. Don't marry her unless she has citizenship. You don't need to jump right into marriage anyways wait and see how it go's for a while then move in with her for about two years and see how that works. So give it at least three years, you don't want to get her prego and her bounce on you and take your kid away only for you to see on the weekend.

My uncle did many years ago and they have been married for decades and she went on to adjust herself in his country and it's culture. But everyone can't be like her.
