Hypothetically speaking, one day all the religion in the world is wiped out. All of the human race are atheists. So here's my question:

1. Will there still be killing?
2. In the name of what shall these people kill?

If you answered yes to the first question, why difference does it make with present time, when people kill in the name of religion, while religion itself was merely a scapegoat for that person.

State your answer and explain your details.

what difference does it make*

Let see, if there's no religion....

No terrorist, good point.

but then the God-fearing-about to be-criminals would be more because well, if to them there is no God, they won't care.

So basicly it won't make any difference.

NOBODY has ever stated that ending religion would simultaneously end crime. What they have stated is that certain criminals, terrorists, etc. justification for crime would vanish.

Yes, assuming that we have not evolved in some way that human behavior changes.

It would be in no one's name, but rather in the name of other ideas and motives...

Same ones that have been used before. Some people like to say that Stalin was an example of atheist massacre. Anyone who actually looks into it sees that the problem was not his atheism, but his political philosophies - that of communism, and putting the state before all else.

People have and will kill for greed, for freedom, for power, for revenge, for a multitude of reasons - some noble to our sensibilities and some not at all so.

See, it's not just religion that's the problem. It's irrational thinking. It just so happens that religion is by far the largest institution of irrationality in the world at this time.

Edit - "but then the God-fearing-about to be-criminals would be more because well, if to them there is no God, they won't care."

Could you restate that, please? You think there would be criminals? Because they won't care about what?

1. yes
2. racism, nationalism, greed, ideologies....

The biggest killings of recent times were due to the concepts I stated in my answer to point 2 and not in the name of religion. Hitler and his followers killed because of racism, nationalism, a greed for power and land and in the name of an ideology that was mainly based on racism. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and others were atheists and killed because of their greed for power in the name of an ideology that contained atheism as a doctrine.

I am an atheist myself, so this is not an anti-atheist statement from a religious person, but I just state a fact.

Of course there will still be killing. There will always be stupid people killing others. The only difference is that they'll know that if they kill someone, they don't get the comfort of "repenting" and being with God. They can't say, "God told me to kill him". Mothers can't drown their children and say that god instructed them to. No one can kill because their land is holy and god only wanted their religion to survive.

1. yes
2. all the usual reasons, greed, ignorance, fear, insanity

Because we have to let go of these crutches so we can grow as a species. Once religion is gone, we can start/continue to work on the other things.

But it's kind of hard to work on that when one delusional group insists their magic sky daddy is the only correct one and the other swears it is theirs, and they're both willing to kill and die for it. We'll get to the rest sooner or later.

there would still be killing, of course. but it only follows if you eliminate the largest cause, there will be less of it.
