I would go back to the dr. maybe another one. brown recluse spiders are poisionous and there venom can cause this type of reaction, your son may be allergic to the spider venom. I was bitten several years ago and ignored the bite only to have it develope into blood poisioning. get him rechecked, perhaps the dr. didnt fully understand the words brown recluse

The poison from a brown recluse will eat away skin and underlying tissue. How long ago was the bite? My son was in Air Force Basic some years ago. He said they had to really be careful when putting on their boots, because the brown recluse likes to live in dark places. He actually thought he had been bitten by one around his eye. The dr. told him they would know for sure by morning, because he would wake to an empty eye socket! Either this Dr. had a sick sense of humor, or this little spider can really pack an unwanted punch. Luckly, he woke up with an eye and brown recluse was ruled out. My son said he did see the result of a brown recluse bite. One of the female recruits was bitten on the arm. Even with quick medical attention, within hours, she had lost a lot of flesh. Not pretty. I have a feeling your son was NOT bitten by a brown recluse. But he does need to get more medical attention ASAP.

OMG...Take him to the hospital right now that is very serious.
My cousin got bit on the hand by a spide like that and doctor gave her some kind of cream then like 2 days later she started with blisters then a few more days it started to turn a bluish black color and to make a long story short abour the 10th day after the bite DR.s had to amputate her her thumb.
She filed a law-suit against the DR and won in less then a year!!!
I am not trying to scare you or anything but please take him back to the hospital!!!
You know that old sayin "It's better "Safe" then "Sorry"!!!
P.S. Take your son to another DR.
All The Best!

Time for a second opinion! That is NOT adequate care for a brown recluse bite. At the very least, call the doctor and tell him the new developments....if he still doesn't do anything else.....I would take him to another doctor.
This is serious business....especially if you are sure it was a brown recluse. You can never be too careful with your children...
Good luck! God bless!

I'v heard those bites eat the skin off eventually. I'd go to the hospital and make sure they know what kind of spider it was and see what they do. That doesn't sound right. Good luck. And wish your son well for me.

did you catch and kill the spider and show it to him?? Brown recluse bites cause a local reaction and not blisters everywhere. I doubt you and your doctor are thinking the same diagnosis.

The Doctor should know best, But I would take him to another Doctor just to put your mind at rest. Second opinions never hurt.
