I haven't had an allergic reaction to aloe Vera....
but I have noticed that the aloe Vera creams, lotions, etc., are NOT one hundred per cent aloe Vera:
they are a cream or lotion or shampoo base, with some aloe vera added
so you may have been allergic to the other ingredients - I even noticed that in a bottle of "pure" aloe Vera gel - there were other ingredients besides aloe Vera (the aloe Vera in there was one hundred per cent) but was not only ingredient
.....if you want plain aloe Vera - buy a plant and cut the leaf open and use the gel - you can even swallow it - I know someone who cured a stomach ulcer this way
After saying all that: yes, you could be allergic to the actual aloe Vera - the same way lots of people are allergic to plants....
If by now your eyes area is still swollen, you may need to see a Dr. .....
we all do things like this so don't be too hard on yourself - it wasn't a stupid thing to do - but the eye area is very sensitive:
good luck and I hope I have helped a little...

No, but I do have eczema patches below my eyes where the dark bags are and also on my chest and rib cage area. It's horrible when you're trying to sleep and you itch like crazy. The creams and lotions temporarily work, then the eczema pops up in a different area of the body like my calves. My scalp did swell up a little after a hairstylist at a neighborhood salon put some kind of dry wax on my hair after she trimmed it. I noticed my whole scalp was swollen red when I checked my haircut in the bathroom mirror!

Take 2 benadryl for the soothing of your eczema's itch. You can take Advil to reduce your swelling, it's an anti-inflammatory. There are very good creams that your dermatologist can prescribe to keep your itch in check. I have eczema and would recommend you get good prescription creams. Until I got mine, I was an awful mess.
