I downloaded some trial versions of games which I placed in my desktop that I now want to delete but can't. When I try to delete the files, an error msg comes up saying another program or person is using the file and I need to close it first but I can't figure out which program is using the file to close it. Any suggestions ?

the other person that is using may very well be spyware. Check your startup menu and if need be use selective startup to start only the windows applications. then try to delete the offending programs.
