No the president didnt say he was sending 22,000 units to Iraq. Though he has been known to say some pretty silly things. He is sending 22,000 TROOPS (not just men because there are many women who serve). He is probably sending about 5-6 brigades to Iraq and that would just about equal the number of troops that he wants to send.

If you're asking about Marine Corps ground pounders, 4 men per fire team, 5 fire teams per column, 3 columns per platoon, three platoons per company and 4 companies per battalion... If you're talking Marine Corps Air... Figure about 30 per S shop (S-1 thru S-4), with all of about 4 in flt equipment, plus pilots and maybe about 10 having been fapped out to support other base functions.
You should learn to spell. "Irac" is with a 'Q,' not a 'C.' So, why do you ask? Trying to wrap your head around things? Figure, the sooner the border to Syria and Iran are secured, the sooner we can stabilize (again -- it was relatively stable until just prior to the elections), strengthen their military and police and then come home. You know you stand a greater chance of being killed here in a big city than do our troops there. Do the math, we're averaging a loss of only about 3 men per day over a three plus year period. Hell, Patton lost on average 83 men per day in 1944, and that was against a uniformed, easily identified enemy. Oh, what the news media doesn't want you to know...

A "unit" is anything from 2 men to 30 thousand. Simply depends on whether it is a "squad" or a "division"
Come to think of it, "army group" is also a "unit"- that'll be about half a milion men.
You sure about that quote? Sounds like a misspelling to me.

About a division. To add what Doc said. West Baltimore is often described as worse than Baghdad during our sergeant's time training.
