Sad, but true. You are not alone in the way you feel about this. I am sorry to say that I am glad that I am not alone in feeling the same as you. I can not believe the way kids are and the way they act now-a-days. It is just plain wrong. The kids are over protected when we can not punish them as I was punished as a kid. I do not mean beating kids either. But just merely a spanking on their butt is prohibited. Kids are so unruley, rude, nasty mouthed, talk back creatures, and spoiled as you mentioned. They will soon go through this same stuff as they get married and have their own children to raise, but that does not make it easy on us right now or help us. I do believe that when I take certain things away from my kid when she/he misbehaves is one thing (punishment ) that really helps for a limited time only. I just can not get over how kids have really changed for the worse since I was a kid. Yes, we as parents are way too soft on our teenagers. You would think that I am asking mine to have all of their teeth yanked out if I ask them to take out the trash or do some dishes. That is a shame eh?

Society has ruined the teens of today. I believe all teens are rebellious to an extent, but government has taken the right to discipline from the parents and the school and authoritative figures. So many household are double income and to make up for the lack of parenting the teens are given computers, cell phones, iPods, gameboys...etc. None of which are properly supervised, add to drinking and drugs you now have a lethal combination...nobody watches over them, nobody cares, as long as the parents don't have to take time off from work, or disrupt the evening hours...
I was a child in the 60's, you went to school and if you did something wrong at school you were disciplined right there when it happened, when you got home from school you got it again for doing it in the first place..you didn't repeat it again. My girls grew up in the 80's...I was a stay at home Mom, When they did something wrong, I was called, a letter sent home, I had to sign it and when they got to school punishment was determined. My Grandkids go today, if they do any thing, nobody says a word unless another student complains a zillion times, smart mouth a teacher (my niece is a teacher) your sent to the office where you sit all day. It's a waste of paper to send home a note so they stopped doing so, the parents won't come in anyway because they can't afford to miss work, by law a teacher/principle can't even verbally punish a child. I'll agree we had some teachers that took their position too far, but so have police officiers, judges, parents, congressmen themselves we see it everyday on the news...but has anyone thought what this world would be like if the law removed discipline from everyone else like they have the parents and teachers?

I don't think it's really worse now than it was before. I was a hellion, and that was 15 years ago. I don't know before that.
I'm an 8th grade BD teacher and I'll say that I do see a lot of kids that just don't care about themselves, and a lot of kids that don't get proper discipline at home. That makes my job harder.
Example: Last week a student destroyed our classroom. Tore things up, tipped over a computer and busted the monitor, tore the phone out of the wall. Oh it was bad. We had to call the police, but we called mom first. Mom was livid, screaming at US. what had we done to get her child this upset?
I don't know about all the parents out there but had this been my child 1st I know my child wouldn't act this way but if by some bizarre turn of events she did I would have been at that school kicking her *** myself. Why would my child never behave this way? Because she knows without a doubt in her mind if she did I would kill her, she would no longer exist in this world. Now ofcourse I would never kill my child however I think she believes that I might if she ever did something like that.
Bottom line: parents....quite babying your children, when they misbehave don't blame everyone else look at yourself for a change.

Yes, we are! When I grew up in the 70's, you respected your parents and were afraid of disobeying because you knew you'd be punished or grounded. No meant no and there was no discussion. Plus instead of asking if you can go out, today they just TELL. What on earth has happened?
Over the years and various generations things have changed and of course they were bound to... but it makes me nutty when my step-daughter feels she has the right to talk back and challenge. Kids today don't know how lucky they are that parents succumb to buying them expensive electronics, designer clothes and family holidays abroad....they'll be in for a great shock when they get out there in the real world.
The sad part is that these days... there's so much pressure from peers that the kids feel as though their life is over if they don't have these things... and more than likely they will get picked on at school. Shame....

Parents just let their kids to do what they want to get them out of their hair. If parents took time to do things with their children & get to know them, things could be different. Kids get in trouble to get attention. Spare the rod spoil the child.
