Some people resort to hate, to deal with the hurt of rejection. Its just one more way of dealing with the pain, most individuals are usually sensitive enough to want to either back away, or treat the person who rejected them with hate, to better guard themselves and let themselves feel better. (Better to feel angry then to feel hurt/wounded)

Generally most people being as they are would not want to remain too close around the person who rejected them for a time, at least until the wounds close.
