Don't be nervous! This is nothing you can't handle. There's no need to acknowledge the Valentine's gift - it was given to you by a SECRET admirer, you don't need to mention it at all until somebody confesses that it was they who sent it. There's also no need to explain your feelings fully, certainly not at this stage. You should do that with a boyfriend not a workmate. And why do you feel that you wouldn't be able to give him as much as he would want? It sounds like you're not really looking for a relationship at the moment, is that right? So maybe you shouldn't consider taking your harmless flirting any further? And there's nothing wrong with a bit of harmless banter at work - makes Monday to Friday so much more fun! My advice to you is just carry on as normal, keep him as a friend until either he forces the issue or you feel that you want something deeper with him. Good luck!

Go talk to him. Thank him for the gift. If you can't get involved now just tell him that, but maybe you should give it a try; he may not expect as much as you think and what makes you think you would let him down?

What if it was a friend playing a prank at work? If you think it is this guy why don't you ask him and be straight forward about the question.

Things happen for a reason, many times things happen like falling in love when you least expect things to happen.

Mention it as a joke to him. "Hey a secret admirer left me a valentine, I wonder if it was ________" obviously not him. Then wait to see his reaction to what you say. This is one of my favorite stages in a relationship, enjoy it while it lasts.

Leave a note where he will find it. Say something like, "Thank you for my gift, if you want to talk, make yourself known."
