You can't force a cat to do anything on your timetable, cats do things on their own timetable.
Don't try to lure him out with food, when he feels comfortable in his new home he'll come out of hiding.

Just be patient. It may take her a long time to feel safe in her new surroundings. Sit quietly and if you talk to her use a soft voice. Try not to have loud noises in your home (like the TV or a radio). Try putting a soft toy near where she hides. I have a terrycloth baby bath toy that I put down for my oldest cat and she curls up with it - her security blanket?
You didn't mention the cat's age, but if she is an adult, it may take even longer for her to overcome her fears. She may always be a nervous cat.
Of my three cats (all rescued), one hides most of the time. She comes out only when I am the only one in the room (and that took almost a year!) She will sit with me and purr - which is a real treat for me!
Again, be patient. And thank you for adopting and caring.

Ok, I have a cat, so I know all about this. Before you got the cat, you probably got it from a pet store, but the cat probably had another family before that. Now this family was probably being abusive to the cat. So know it's scared to come out because it thinks that you might hurt it. So just show the cat that you can be gentle and don't try to get her out with food. Just leave her where she is and once she relizes that you're not harmful, she will come out. Hope this helps. Oh also, try Medleys soft food as a treat. They LOVE Medleys. You can buy it at any pet store.

Just keep doing what you are doing. If you try to force her or grab her and hold her, you'll only make it worse.
Sit down near where she hides and just be patient. Only have food available when you're home...so she's hungry and needs to come out to see you. Have something really delicious like tuna. When she comes out, just sit with her, don't touch her. As she leans to trust you, she'll become friendlier. She may have had a bad experience with people in the past.
Good luck.
