Take your marriage licence to your lawyer and they can make the change...it'll cost a small fee. Best to let your lawyer take care of it, they know the ins and outs and shortcuts, they can do in five minutes what would take you all day.

I'm in themiddle of this at the moment, changing the name on my shares to my married name. Firstly, check the details of the registrar who is holding the main share database - you may find that Lloyds TSB Registrars in Worthing, West Sussex, is the registrar for many of the shares you hold. Then, you have to write a letter to them, stating the number of shares that you hold in each company and your account number, if you have it, nad your maiden name and new married name. You have to enclose the original marriage certificate - they will not accept a copy. Make sure that your one letter covers all the companies that these Registrars deal with. In your letter, ask them to keep your marriage certificate CLEAN and UNFOLDED - very important, and also ask that they return it by special delivery as you only have the one copy. They may return it by ordinary post but it's worth a try. Make sure you put a contact telephone number in your letter, in case of any queries.
It should take about a week for them to reply. In most cases they will just note the change of name and that's it and you won't have to return the certificates. Then you need to contact your bank, DVLA if you have a driving licence, insurers, passport office, doctor, dentist, optician ... the list goes on.
Good luck. I know exactly what a slog it is. I got married two months ago and I am only just halfway through my list of people who need to see the original certificate!

If you have a stock broker, advise him/er of your marriage and s/he will take care of registering the change with the companies you hold stock in. The broker will probably require a copy of your marriage license.
