Broadband: It's called this because of the large amount of bandwidth available to users now.
Cable Internet: Coaxial Line used; supports high speeds
up to 18 mega-bits per/sec download speeds - receiving data
up to 5 mega-bits per/sec upload speeds - requesting web data
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line): RJ-11; you can only fit so much data
up to 5 mega-bits per/sec download speeds
up to 1.5 mega-bits per/sec upload speeds
FIOs (Fiber Optics): Blazing fast speeds
Uses Fiber optic cabling. No wires inside cord, instead clear plastic thats more secure and fast as hell.
Verizon may offer in your area.
The ISP uses up to 30% of your bandwidth for "maintenance" they say so you never get peak speeds.

Comcast broadband (carried on your televesion cable) can be faster. Notice I said can. The actual speed will depend on the number of users in your area at a given time. During the day, when very few people are at home, the speeds are likely to be high. In the evenings, when more people are home and on line, the speeds will likely be much slower. Of course Comcast doesn't advertise this information.
DSL (provided over you phone line. You don't need a second line.) on the other hand can be subscribed to at various rates (speeds) and is constant at that rate no matter what the user load.
This is the primary difference between the two types.

COMCAST usually works over the cable TV wire while DSL works over your telephone line.
