It is a group of people, large or small, that choose to live in an environment where goods, resources, income, sometimes even wives and children are shared by all. It can be based on philosophy, religion, economics, environmentral concerns, etc.

It can be small - a few people - to a whole town.

There have been many many attempts at such communal living situations over the years - some very successful, others a miserable failure.
