and a decision to be made between a woman and her doctor, then why do we need abortion clinics?

Many people believe that abortion should only be for rape and to save the life of the mother, or fetal anomaly, therefore, can't a woman's doctor do the procedure if that is the case? Apparently, these cases for abortion make up less than 2%.

Wouldn't this cut down on abortion-on-demand as birth control--which many pro-choice people view as wrong--and make abortion truly safe, legal, and rare?

PS--If it matters, I am female.

I took this information from the following website:
http://www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html

Why women have abortions
1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).

There is no doubt that it just a convenience that women get abortions. But of course the liberals want you to think that every women that gets one has been raped. Its ridicules. People want to push this issue so hard that you would think that its mandatory. I really feel sorry for some young women these days. They don't know what love or commitment is, they think they have to dress like sluts because of what they see on tv, and most will drop and spread for any guy that shows an interest in them. And damn the consequences. Its a shame what we have done to our young lady's.

We need abortion clinics for the 93% who do not either have health care or do not want anyone to know they are aborting their child.

Since it is legal...at any point in the pregnancy to terminate...the clinics are the obvious choice for anonymity.

Most American's feel that an abortion should not be legal for reasons of convenience, yet that is exactly what most of abortions are.

But being able to go to your doctor vs. a clinic...I don't see how that would cut down on the abortion rate. If a doctor is legally allowed and willing to do an abortion...what would be the difference between a doctor or Planned Parenthood doing it? It's still an abortion and it's still killing a human being.

A lot of regular doctors wouldn't perform them based on their own personal feelings, the fact it isn't covered by insurance and for other reasons.

Fact is according to the government data, abortion is at one of the lowest rates ever since Roe v Wade happened in the 70's.

If we were to shut down the clinics (which under Bush don't get much government funding anyway) then abortion would not be available to everyone, only to those that could afford a very expensive procedure and how would that be fair.

The old, "abortion on demand as birth control" is crap. I can't believe there are thousands of women out there that use it as birth control. There may be a few, but not many.

Time magazine just had a good article on abortion and clinics in the US. Worth the read no matter which side of the fence you are on.

That is actually a good question.

I can't answer it though. Perhaps a Dr could. I imagine that there are Dr's that don't believe in abortion. I would say most physicians went into the business to save lives. Not intentionally end them. Also, the label of "baby killer" carries a certain stigma with it and who wants to be known in *their* community as such a person. Anyone is naive to think a ngative label doesnt accompany a person who performs such a procedure. It probably take a special breed of person to be willing to live with such a label.

Good question though.

My only disagreement is on fetal anomaly. I am concerned on who decides that. I am also concerned that in the case of a minor that the parents have a say in it . If it is not funded by the government and a persons insurance covers it I am for it in the case of rape and the life of the mother. Only in the first trimester of a pregnancy though. Late term abortion should never be allowed and should be considered murder.
