As the first person said, the background colour will show through the transfer. What you could do if you want to use a dark fabric is, paint the fabric with white fabric paint on the area you want to print on and then, when the paint is dry apply the transfer on top of the painted area.

Avery's Ink-Jet Transfer Paper comes both ways, available in 12 packs. We got ours at Office Depot, but I'm sure many other stores carry them. You no longer have to iron onto a light fabric.
